The Talon 6 pack is perfect for day hikers going on shorter hikes and ultralight hiking.

Since the capacity is 6 liters, you can hold some things, but not too many items. If you have back problems, this pack is also great because it relies on your hips for support. If you do shorter day hikes, this might be the right pack for you.

This pack could also be useful for cyclists who need extra gear storage capacity, as it would fit comfortably during riding.

Fit, Sizing, and Comfort on the Trail

The Osprey Talon 6 Waist Pack is a very comfortable waist pack, from my experience.

It can fit a waist size range of 20 to 50 inches. The EF version can fit waist sizes of 40 to 70 inches, making this pack versatile for just about any type of hiker. The dimensions of the Talon 6 are 13 x 8 x 8 inches.

Durability, Materials, and Ruggedness

The Osprey Talon 6 Waist Pack is very durable, just as durable as any Osprey Pack is, as the company is very known for making durable hiking packs.

The pack is frameless, of course. It’s made with bluesign-approved 100% recycled 100-denier high-tenacity nylon with dobby check ripstop. Durable water repellent (DWR) treatment has been made without PFAS.

I have found the Talon 6 pack to be good for rugged environments and have hiked off-trail, getting snags and twigs without damaging the pack.

Features and Storage Capacity

The Osprey 6 Talon Waist Pack has a 6-liter capacity in terms of what you can pack into it.

There are two padded water bottle sleeves with bungee retention straps to secure them, but water bottles are not included with your purchase. There are 5 storage compartments plus one main compartment. The storage compartments include hip belt pockets, inner pockets, and the main larger compartment, all with zipper access, of course.

The zippers are strong and have given me no issues in terms of ease of use and durability of the zip function.

There are some pros and cons to using the Osprey Talon 6 Waist Pack.

Pros:

• The pack takes pressure off your back and shoulders.
• The pack has plenty of room for short day hikes or bike trips.
• The pack is comfortable, can be adjusted for sizing, and is made of durable water-repellent materials.
• The regular pack is good for ultralight hiking as it weighs under a pound.

Cons:

• The EF Osprey Talon 6 Waist Pack is over a pound and not suitable for most ultralight hiking.
• Excess straps from fitting could hang of get in the way if using the pack for cycling.
• There are only 2 color options available.
• The pack only holds 6 liters of gear, which isn’t very much in terms of capacity.

What I Pack in My Osprey Talon 6 Waist Pack

I usually use the Talon 6 waist pack when I hike a short trail of just a few miles or for extra storage space when mountain or gravel biking.

I typically carry two bike-type water bottles with me when I wear them. I’ll pack a snack, some TP, hand sanitizer, a small first aid kit, a headlamp, a knife, and some emergency items when I wear mine. It’s easy to pack your gear and access it without any issues when using the Talon 6 waist pack.
